Toy Fair 2018 is in full swing, which means your social media feeds are probably full of new toy announcements! For those of you who aren’t in every toy related Facebook group ever, we’ve got you covered, just keep reading! If you don’t know what Toy Fair is… it’s the industry convention where the major brands will show off their up and coming toy selections. While we’re not on the ground at Toy Fair this year, we wanted to round up some of the best coverage of our favorite toy lines featured so far.
NECA’s Alien, Predator, and Alien vs. Predator Toy Fair 2018 Lineup:
Our friends over at Toyark.com have an excellent gallery featuring NECA’s Aliens vs Predator lineup, including the Kenner styled Apone! Definitely check out the gallery in their writeup. The Scorpion Alien is one of the better figures we’ve seen so far from Toy Fair!
Super7’s Reaction, Muscle, and many more:
One of the most surprising reveals at Toy Fair came from Super7’s reveal of their Ghosts’N Goblins figures. These came as a huge surprise (at least to us) as they are the very first action figures created for the 1985 classic NES Game. The display features six figures, all in prototype form and are unpainted, but each with a very unique sculpt.
Another unexpected reveal… The Great Garloo (and his son)! As you can see, this one is likely not as far along as the Ghost’N Goblins figures, as there’s no 3D display of the figure. While this one is a little less exciting than the Ghosts’N Goblins reveal, them committing to a Great Garloo figure brings us hope that we’ll continue to see a wide variety of classic vintage figures reimagined in this line.
As a monster fan, it’s hard not to be excited by these! Super7 has released the Universal Monster figures in the past, but they featured very different sculpts. In addition to the new and improved figures, the card art on these has been completely overhauled. I’m anxious to see the finished product, as I think the paint applications will really determine the success of these, but at first glance these appear to have an incredible amount of detail. If absolutely nothing else, the card art has already made these a must own for me. It’s great to see the Mole People and the Metaluna Mutant included in the lineup as well!
Hasbro’s Obnoxiously Amazing Jabba’s Sail Barge
One of the most interesting announcements was Hasbro’s newly launched crowdfunding effort known as HasLab. It was announced that their first offering would be a recreation of Jabba’s Sail Barge, scaled to fit the Vintage Collection (3 and 3/4 inch) perfectly. While only conceptual photos are shared on the site, let me just say that this thing looks very impressive! You can watch (and preorder the barge) the full teaser at on Hasbrolab.com
Newly Announced Marvel Legends (Toy Fair 2018)
Toy Fair 2018 brought us a sneak peek at the upcoming Marvel legends… hint: there’s a lot, Hasbro is releasing 8 Legends waves in 2018 alone. Let’s take a look at one of the previously leaked waves… the Deadpool Series 2 line with a Sauron BAF. The wave itself offers some awesome figure choices including Lady Deadpool, X-Men Deadpool, Omega Red, the 80s style Bishop, and much more!
Funko Savage World – Thundercats (Toy Fair 2018)
Alright, I’ll admit- I’m far from the world’s foremost Thundercats collector, but even I am stoked for these. As you may know, I’m a bit of a sucker for the MOTU styled bodies that Funko has embraced lately. Is it just me? I don’t know, but these figures immediately jumped out to me as something incredible. I like the design of the original Thundercats, but seeing them reimagined with He-Man styled bodies has definitely got my attention. These will definitely be a “must own” for me. Well done Funko!
There will be plenty more to cover in the next week, but I wanted to get the few standouts captured as soon as I could.
